Restaurant Details
Food is definitely one of the highlights of staying at Manayath Farm. The cuisine is mostly local and cooked by our family. Being a traditional agrarian household, lavish meals are more or less the norm and pretty much a way of life. Meals are served either in the dining room of the villa, in the family dining room or in the pavilion itself. Self- catering facilities are minimal. The whole family or at least some of us will definitely join with you for the meals. We are glad to cater for any special diets if needed and also provide for vegetarian options too. In fact all meals are discussed with the guests.
We also cater for (lunch parties) for non- resident guests but only on a prior arrangement basis. We also offer cooking classes for resident guests who are interested in learning the local cuisine. The cuisine is predominantly Syrian Christian in par with Keralan touch and tradition. Most of our dishes are centered around fish, farm vegetables and fruits, duck, chicken and occasionally other meats, supplemented with rice and rice based local breads like appam, string hoppers, etc. Some of our specialties are smashed Tapioca with red- hot kerala fish curry (of course with less chilly), Nellikka arishtam (vine prepared with Gooseberry in honey or in jaggery).
Location
The farm is located at Chellarcoil, 3 kms off Anakkara on Thekkady- Kumily- Munnar highway in Idukki district of Kerala. These 15 acres of land is our ancestral property (hence the name Manayath Heritage). It is our father, late Mr.Pappechan, who undertook development on the farm by bringing in a system of inter- crop farming. The working farm, which practices on sustainable/ organic methods of farming, has pepper, cardamom, coffee, vanilla, banana, vegetables, fruits, ayurvedic herbs, etc. The farm also has few cows, goats, hens and geese. It provides employment to few of our neighbors, free grass for the livestock, plenty of firewood, as fuel is available. We slowly geared to organic and bio- dynamic practices of cultivation, hence succeeded to eliminate all sorts of chemical inputs to the farm. We impart organic cultivation here in association with Peerumedu Development Society (PDS), a voluntary Non Government Organization, is now SCAL certified.
